But a surprising friendship with compassionate gardener Nathaniel Turner shows Sofia just how much she’s been missing…and how much she stands to lose when summer ends.

EXCERPT:

He refocused on the here and now. Why was the aunt taking so long to get out of the sedan? Was she older? Should he be a gentleman and go help? Maybe corralling the boys would be enough. They seemed ready to take flight again.

Dodger had no qualms about going to investigate the woman. Her quiet voice drifted over as she spoke to the dog. Then she straightened —at least Nathaniel assumed she did. He could only see the mass of black curls she had piled on her head. Another minute and she rounded the front of the car, Dodger at her side.

Definitely not older.

His heart pounded. Dressed in a sleeveless dress covered in yellow sunflowers that stopped at her knees, she looked like summer itself. He hadn't let himself appreciate a woman's beauty since—well, for a long time. And it unnerved him how easily this one could turn his head.

Then he realized she was balanced on two crutches, her left foot in a huge black walking boot.

REVIEW:

Facing multiple challenges, dealing with grief, and living in faith are key elements in this story . . .

Sofia Russo is a single woman who is grieving the death of her sister. She has stepped in to be the guardian of her two young nephews, Rowen and Tucker. Things are not going as smoothly as she hoped because of her broken foot and the fact that the boys are having trouble adjusting to their new living situation along with grieving the devastating loss of their beloved mother.

Nathaniel Turner owns a landscaping business, and he meets Sofia and the boys when they drive up to the Allens' property as he is finishing his weekly lawn service on the property. The Allens are out of town visiting their daughter, and Sofia will be house-sitting while the couple is gone.

Tucker and Rowen enjoy living on the big property where they explore and play during the long summer days. They develop a positive rapport with Nathaniel, and he becomes an excellent role model for them.

One of my favorite characters in this book is Nathaniel's rescue mutt, Dodger. This dog has quite a personality, and brings humor and levity to some dark moments throughout the story.

Nathaniel is a stand-up guy who is not afraid to show his emotions. I liked the fact that he felt his feelings. He and Sofia quickly bond as they begin to share about their pasts with each other.

The faith thread in this plot is strong and is shared by many characters in the small town. Nathaniel's father's wisdom and guidance are especially touching.

The story is completely clean in language and content. I received a copy of this book from the author through JustRead Publicity Tours. All of my thoughts and opinions shared here are solely my own.
