EXCERPT:

Luke squeezed his eyes shut. Now what? His life seemed to be unraveling before his eyes. Gone were his girlfriend and football season. Undoubtably losing both would affect his standing in their friend group. His whole high school identity had been dismantled as he’d hit rock bottom—literally. He opened his eyes; thousands of stars came into focus. Maybe it was time to follow Grandma’s advice and trust in God.

Hello, Book Friends!

I'm thrilled to announce that my middle-grade historical adventure for children ages 8-12 is now available as an audiobook!

BOOK BLURB:

It's the summer of 1968 in Sonoma County, California, and eleven-year-old Weston Gregg and his nine-year-old sister, Wendy, are looking for fun things to do during their summer break from school. When they discover some abandoned rabbits, they hatch an idea to make a positive difference for animals and people in their small town of Tyler Stop. They decide to form 'Rescue Each Species-Quickly', or RES-Q Tyler Stop. There are challenges to face as they move forward into their new venture, including standing up to someone who is targeting Weston's friends for being different and dealing with the consequences of a painfully bad decision.

Will Weston have to handle these issues on his own or will he learn to accept the advice and wisdom shared by some important people in his life? Join Weston and his family and friends as they share some adventures and learn and grow together in RES-Q Tyler Stop.

This book is completely clean in language and content.

This story will be a great family 'listen' for summer reading time!

Northern Virginia’s own Martha Stewart returns in a brand-new mystery as an interior designer clashes with a killer . . .

Stylish brunches are all the rage this autumn in Old Town Alexandria, and everyone’s posting their parties on social media. But while Domestic Diva Sophie Winston juggles her event-filled calendar, she’s approached by local designer Mitzi Lawson—who is afraid someone is following her. The very next day Mitzi loses her best friend and business partner, Denise. The two were renovating a generations-old house where Denise died unexpectedly, and Mitzi fears that it wasn’t a medical condition to blame, but murder.

It could just be the shock talking, but Sophie agrees to help Mitzi involve the police. Then she receives a panicked phone call from Mitzi, and when she rushes to the old house, Mitzi is nowhere to be found. Now Sophie’s appetite for investigation is piqued even more than her appetite for eggs Benedict and mimosas.

Could Denise’s death be connected to her viper’s nest of in-laws or the house she was working on which her husband just inherited? What of the self-proclaimed etiquette expert with some improper secrets, or the scheming mistress? Or does the old house harbor secrets of its own? There’s a generous buffet of suspects to keep the Diva scrambling for an answer . . .

Includes delicious recipes and fabulous DIY decorating tips!

MY REVIEW:

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

A well-written story featuring a strong cast of two-legged and four-legged characters who deftly navigate readers through this intricate murder mystery . . .

This is the second book I have read in the author's Domestic Diva Mystery series, and I sincerely admire the author's ability to fluently manage a large number of characters and clues in her stories while keeping readers engaged and entertained. The 'Cast of Characters' included in the front of the book makes a great reference for readers.

Sophie Winston, the Domestic Diva, writes an advice column about all things domestic—decorating, entertaining, and cooking. The columns presented at the beginning of each chapter are whimsical and sometimes funny. If Sophie is not the columnist, advice with a different tone from 'Natasha' (who is a frenemy of Sophie) is shared with readers.

This story grabbed my attention right away with the mysterious and tragic death of a beloved member of the community interior designer, Denise Nofsinger. Denise is a young woman who is happily married to a member of one of the town's prominent families.

Sophie and her closest friends—Nina, Mars, and Bernie—work through clues diligently to piece together who is killing members of their small community until they successfully come up with the motive and ultimately the identity of the killer.

As a bonus, the author has included a wide variety of recipes for dishes included in the story for readers to enjoy. This story is completely clean in language and content.

I received a copy of this book from the author through Great Escapes Virtual Book Tours. All of my thoughts and opinions shared here are solely my own.

Welcome to Weldon, Kentucky, where no one can keep a secret forever.

Imagine discovering a place where the locals treat you with warmth and welcome you like family. Carson Williams finds such a place when he visits his deceased mother’s hometown of Weldon. The atmosphere in the community creates a deep yearning in Carson, and he thinks Kentucky is the perfect place for a new beginning. Carson hopes the country life will lead to his emotional healing from PTSD.

While Carson is having lunch at the local diner with Sparky Compton, a young doctor who’s captured his heart, Virginia Willoughby collapses. Sparky springs into action, but Carson struggles to maintain control of his emotions. Mrs. Willoughby’s daughter, Emma Baker arrives, and the magnetic pull of Emma’s gaze confuses Carson. She reminds him of someone, but who? Later, Emma wonders why she can’t stop thinking about the mysterious stranger when her heart belongs to pastor Luke Davis.

But there are secrets in the small town—and they will impact both Carson and Emma.

EXCERPT:

Carson Williams looked up from his menu when a stately woman in a tailored black suit paused beside him and gasped. Her blue eyes widened, and she crumpled to the floor. A loud crack sounded, and blood spread across the green and white tiles at his feet.

His date, Dr. Sparky Compton, dropped her menu and knelt before the woman. “Mrs. Virginia.” Sparky’s voice held a tone of urgency.

Carson’s chest constricted, and his hands trembled. Mindful meditation usually helped him maintain control when an unexpected sound triggered a flashback. He closed his eyes, drew in a deep breath, held it, exhaled, and breathed in another lungful of air.

The Triple D is a safe place. Weldon, Kentucky, is a safe place. This wasn’t Reno. But what he’d just seen had been real, and he’d failed to respond.

Carson gripped the edge of his seat and forced his eyes open. Sparky’s slim fingers rested in the groove under the lady’s jawline.

“Yes!” Sparky looked up at him and beamed. “Mrs. Virginia has a pulse.”

The restaurant owner, Dot, pushed through the crowd. “What happened?”

Sparky grabbed her pack and dug through it. “Mrs. Virginia collapsed and hit her head. Call an ambulance.” She pulled on a pair of latex gloves. “Give us some privacy.”

Carson focused on the back of Sparky’s head where a French braid captured her blonde curls.

Dot removed a phone from her pink waitress uniform pocket and pointed to the door. “Folks, you heard the doctor. Please step outside.”

There was a low mumbling and clattering of plates as people stood and gathered their belongings.

Dot held the phone to her ear. “We need an ambulance at Dot’s Deluxe Diner, corner of Main and Chestnut. Dr. Compton is here.”

“Tell them she’s unresponsive.” Sparky held an ammonia capsule by her patient’s nose.

Carson couldn’t exit the booth without stepping over the unconscious woman, so he closed his eyes and concentrated again on breathing. If he couldn’t center himself, the paramedics would have two patients. Minutes later, a siren pierced the air, and his body quivered. Don’t think. Breathe in. Hold it. Exhale. The pressure surrounding Carson’s ribcage intensified. He was suffocating. Why had he left his safe place? Carson hugged himself and rocked in place. I’m in a diner. I’m in Weldon, Kentucky. I’m safe. I’m safe. I’m safe. If he kept telling himself that, maybe he could hold on to his sanity. Maybe.

Breathe.

If only he could have a normal life again. If only he could experience peace again, but he couldn’t.
