Welcome to Weldon, Kentucky, where no one can keep a secret forever.
Imagine discovering a place where the locals treat you with warmth and welcome you like family. Carson Williams finds such a place when he visits his deceased mother’s hometown of Weldon. The atmosphere in the community creates a deep yearning in Carson, and he thinks Kentucky is the perfect place for a new beginning. Carson hopes the country life will lead to his emotional healing from PTSD.
While Carson is having lunch at the local diner with Sparky Compton, a young doctor who’s captured his heart, Virginia Willoughby collapses. Sparky springs into action, but Carson struggles to maintain control of his emotions. Mrs. Willoughby’s daughter, Emma Baker arrives, and the magnetic pull of Emma’s gaze confuses Carson. She reminds him of someone, but who? Later, Emma wonders why she can’t stop thinking about the mysterious stranger when her heart belongs to pastor Luke Davis.
But there are secrets in the small town—and they will impact both Carson and Emma.

EXCERPT:
Carson Williams looked up from his menu when a stately woman
in a tailored black suit paused beside him and gasped. Her blue eyes widened,
and she crumpled to the floor. A loud crack sounded, and blood spread across
the green and white tiles at his feet.
His date, Dr. Sparky Compton, dropped her menu and knelt
before the woman. “Mrs. Virginia.” Sparky’s voice held a tone of urgency.
Carson’s chest constricted, and his hands trembled. Mindful
meditation usually helped him maintain control when an unexpected sound
triggered a flashback. He closed his eyes, drew in a deep breath, held it,
exhaled, and breathed in another lungful of air.
The Triple D is a safe place. Weldon, Kentucky, is a safe
place. This wasn’t Reno. But what he’d just seen had been real, and he’d
failed to respond.
Carson gripped the edge of his seat and forced his eyes
open. Sparky’s slim fingers rested in the groove under the lady’s jawline.
“Yes!” Sparky looked up at him and beamed. “Mrs. Virginia
has a pulse.”
The restaurant owner, Dot, pushed through the crowd. “What
happened?”
Sparky grabbed her pack and dug through it. “Mrs. Virginia
collapsed and hit her head. Call an ambulance.” She pulled on a pair of latex
gloves. “Give us some privacy.”
Carson focused on the back of Sparky’s head where a French
braid captured her blonde curls.
Dot removed a phone from her pink waitress uniform pocket
and pointed to the door. “Folks, you heard the doctor. Please step outside.”
There was a low mumbling and clattering of plates as people
stood and gathered their belongings.
Dot held the phone to her ear. “We need an ambulance at
Dot’s Deluxe Diner, corner of Main and Chestnut. Dr. Compton is here.”
“Tell them she’s unresponsive.” Sparky held an ammonia
capsule by her patient’s nose.
Carson couldn’t exit the booth without stepping over the
unconscious woman, so he closed his eyes and concentrated again on breathing.
If he couldn’t center himself, the paramedics would have two patients. Minutes
later, a siren pierced the air, and his body quivered. Don’t think. Breathe in. Hold it. Exhale. The pressure surrounding Carson’s ribcage
intensified. He was suffocating. Why had he left his safe place? Carson hugged
himself and rocked in place. I’m
in a diner. I’m in Weldon, Kentucky. I’m safe. I’m safe. I’m safe. If he kept telling himself that, maybe he
could hold on to his sanity. Maybe.
Breathe.
If only he could
have a normal life again. If only he could experience peace again, but he
couldn’t.
