REVIEW:

Facing multiple challenges, dealing with grief, and living in faith are key elements in this story . . .

Sofia Russo is a single woman who is grieving the death of her sister. She has stepped in to be the guardian of her two young nephews, Rowen and Tucker. Things are not going as smoothly as she hoped because of her broken foot and the fact that the boys are having trouble adjusting to their new living situation along with grieving the devastating loss of their beloved mother.

Nathaniel Turner owns a landscaping business, and he meets Sofia and the boys when they drive up to the Allens' property as he is finishing his weekly lawn service on the property. The Allens are out of town visiting their daughter, and Sofia will be house-sitting while the couple is gone.

Tucker and Rowen enjoy living on the big property where they explore and play during the long summer days. They develop a positive rapport with Nathaniel, and he becomes an excellent role model for them.

One of my favorite characters in this book is Nathaniel's rescue mutt, Dodger. This dog has quite a personality, and brings humor and levity to some dark moments throughout the story.

Nathaniel is a stand-up guy who is not afraid to show his emotions. I liked the fact that he felt his feelings. He and Sofia quickly bond as they begin to share about their pasts with each other.

The faith thread in this plot is strong and is shared by many characters in the small town. Nathaniel's father's wisdom and guidance are especially touching.

The story is completely clean in language and content. I received a copy of this book from the author through JustRead Publicity Tours. All of my thoughts and opinions shared here are solely my own.

A riveting conclusion to the author's amazing 'Extreme Measures' series . . .

This fast-paced story is filled with well-developed characters, varied settings, and heart-pounding action. Just when I thought I knew exactly what was going on and how the story was going to end, the author changed course and threw my theory out the window.

The lead female character, AEMT Raina Price, is a strong, self-reliant, determined young woman who is hiding something. She keeps the details of her past close to the vest, even with her closest friends.

Vincent Covelli, US Marshal, has known Raina for awhile; and he's always been intrigued by this attractive woman. He senses that she is keeping secrets from her past; secrets that keep her from trusting anyone fully. He decides to be patient and let God take over his concerns about how to break through Raina's outer shell to initiate a relationship with her.

The faith thread in this story is strong as Vince shares his life's faith journey with Raina by opening up to her about his own past traumas. Their discussions about God and trust added a wonderful dimension to this story for me.

Surprises reign supreme in this story in the suspense element and the romance element. An excellent Epilogue will satisfy fans of this genre. The book is completely clean in language and content. I received a copy of this book from the publisher through their Revell Reads Blogger Program. All of my thoughts and opinions shared here are solely my own.

A gunshot sounded from the riverbank, and a bullet hit the hull.

Mitchell’s muscles locked as terror threatened to overpower him. He tightened his grip on his paddles, scrambling to steady the canoe. His earlier assessment of someone lurking on the riverbank had been correct.

Hazel screamed and dived for cover, as shewhipped out her gun.

Monday, July 24

A steady torrent of rain wet Lovina Graber’s eyelashes and fell like tears as she hobbled to the waiting SUV caked with mud and grime. While she loved the smell of rain in Montana, she wished it would have lightened up until she was safely in the car. With her uneven gait she struggled on the slick ground. Slowly. Just a few more steps.

One foot slid, and Lovina released the tote bag she’d been holding as she reached for the side of the car to catch herself.

“Ach, no!” The contents of her bag spilled all over the wet pavement. As gingerly as possible, she bent over to scoop up the assorted books, craft supplies, and papers, including a large manilla envelope, that had tumbled out.

Her Englisch driver, Wyatt, an older fellow who looked every bit the stereotypical Montana mountain man, hurriedly approached as she stuffed her bag with damp skeins of yarn and rain-slicked magazines. “Let me help you with that, Miss Graber,” he offered, his deep, gruff voice and scraggly gray beard concealing his kind nature.

She clutched the envelope to her chest, then peeked inside her bag to inventory the contents and forced a wide smile in appreciation of his offer of help. “Danke anyway, Wyatt. I think I’ve got everything now.”

Wyatt mopped his brow on the arm of his tattered flannel shirt before opening the beat-up SUV’s back passenger door and offering a hand. She accepted and awkwardly situated herself in the seat. While buckling herself in, she noticed an Amish man she didn’t recognize sitting in the front passenger seat. Immediately her cheeks heated as she realized he’d just witnessed her near fall, but she quickly pushed the thoughts away. Not that it matters none anyway.

The Amish man looked older than most of the new bachelors coming to the area, and the sharp cut of his jaw made him appear handsome. Her heartbeat quickened.

Lovina pulled in a breath and released it just as quickly, reminding herself of the truth she knew. No matter how many bachelors came into West Kootenai, it was useless to get her hopes up. Even if she caught a bachelor glancing her way, one rarely gave her a second look. Although it had pained her for years, Lovina had worked hard to move past it. She could live a happy life without becoming a wife and mother . . . couldn’t she?
