MONDAY SUMMER READING
FOR KIDS FEATURE, PART ONE ~
When I was watching PBS Newshour last week, they mentioned a post they had up on their website entitled, '18 Librarian-Approved Books for Kids of All Ages'. This subject matter especially piqued my interest this year because our world and the school lives of children around the globe have been turned upside down by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Summer reading programs cannot possibly operate the way they have for decades. I decided to do a little research and curate a link pack that some of you and your family and friends might find valuable and useful.
I discovered so much information that I have decided to post about it in two parts. Next Monday, May 18th, I will post the rest of the links for your reference.
📘 -- The PBS Newshour Article with information and lists of books for various age groups may be found at: https://www.pbs.org/newshour/arts/18-librarian-approved-books-for-kids-of-all-ages
📘 -- The NEA's 'Read Across America' website has a plethora of information for educators and parents/grandparents. The page hosts links to research about reading, reading tips, summer reading recommendations, and much more. The 'Best Books for Kids - Summer Reading' post may be found at: https://www.readacrossamerica.org/kids-summer-reading-list/
📘 -- Imagination Soup has a fantastic '2020 Free Summer Reading Programs for Kids' up on their website. The post includes a list of businesses/companies offering free summer reading programs for children, lists of books recommended for students in categories of Pre-Reader up through High School, Book Recommendations by genre, and some fun-looking Scavenger Hunts. This post may be found at: https://imaginationsoup.net/free-summer-reading-programs-kids/

Thanks for the fantastic links. They make me wish my daughter was a little kid again.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting these resourced. They are really great and I've saved them for near future use. Now I can't wait for next weeks post.
ReplyDeleteLove this. I'll be sharing it with many tired parents and teachers. Thanks for featuring the valuable links on MMGM.
ReplyDeleteI love your links! Thanks for putting them all together!
ReplyDeleteWhat an important post! Will share. Hadn't thought about summer reading programs if libraries aren't open. Not all parents can afford to purchase books. Thank you! Thanks you!
ReplyDeleteThanks. These are great links. Now, if the libraries will just reopen. Stay well.
ReplyDeleteThese sites look quite useful! Thanks for sharing these great resources!
ReplyDeleteI love the PBS and NPR book lists. I hadn't seen one before for children's literature, but they do have a list of the top 100 science fiction and fantasy books that I've been thinking of challenging myself to read through (maybe not all 100, but if I could pick 30 I think I'd be doing pretty well) But the list you shared above has a couple of picture books I hadn't heard of before and wouldn't mind taking a look at.
