ABOUT THE BOOK
There were no more words to say. None that would erase the words I’d already spoken. I stood, facing Cassie, whose face had become as hard as stone.
Was she done with me? How could she not be?
“I’m so sorry. My reaction was...wrong.” My chest ached, the fire of anger still burning.
In some ways, it was like I was losing Steven all over again. All because I was trying to make right generations' worth of wrongs. Like letting Renee take the trophy to school could somehow undo the loss of a father, or the emptiness of having never known a grandfather.
Don’t lose sight of the finish line.
I wasn’t even sure I was still in the race.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
JUNE: What are your plans for your next project? Are there any genres you would like to eventually write in? If yes, what are they? Would you like to write non-fiction? If yes, what subject would you write about?
MELANIE: I’m currently working on the last book in my ‘Whispers of Grace’ series. Because this series has been a deep and emotional ride, I’ve been playing around with the idea of writing a book whose pages contain more humor and a completely different kind of character.
The characters I’ve written about so far have been influenced by my own life experiences. Like Cassie, I was in an abusive relationship. While I’ve never struggled with addiction the way Sharon does, I have loved and prayed desperately for people close to me who have.
For my next story, I want to write from a foreign-to-me perspective: an aging and newly widowed, gold-digging “trophy” wife. I’ve never been rich, married for money, or considered a trophy (at least not by worldly standards) so putting myself in this character’s shoes and writing about her life will require some research.
The not-yet-named heroine in this potential novel is expecting to receive the bulk of her husband’s estate, but she is bequeathed only one thing. I won’t go into the details, but I’m excited for the adventures that will ensue. There will be many opportunities for humor, a little mystery, and maybe a bit of romance. A message is already brewing in my heart for this woman’s story.
As for genres I’d like to eventually write in, covered with dust on my shelf are the beginnings of a young adult fantasy novel. It’s a story I dreamed up when I was in my early twenties and it has morphed over the years. I’d love to pick it up again someday, but first I’ll need to read more current work in the genre.
I don’t know if I’d ever want to write a non-fiction book, but I have enjoyed writing bible study articles and devotional pieces, so who knows? Maybe God will expand that part of my writing into a book. If He did, I think it would be about identity.
