ABOUT THE BOOK

Seasoned
TitleSeasoned
Author: Jayme H. Mansfield
Publisher: Lighthouse Publishing
Release Date: November 3, 2020
Genre: Inspirational Contemporary Romance

Essie White battles loneliness two years after the death of her husband. Her romance-writing daughter suggests that her mother try online dating. Essie agrees, seeking male companionship only, not a love interest.

Widower Lou Rizzo isn’t seeking love either. But he accepts his friend’s dare and posts his profile on the dating site, although he uses an alias to safeguard his identity.

Essie and Lou meet, and their initial attraction soon develops into a friendship neither wants to lose. Lou, however, must confess his part in a decades-old incident that he feels Essie cannot forgive. She, too, harbors secrets that may jeopardize their future together.

As the relationship grows, each must decide whether to reveal the truth about their past mistakes, lost dreams, and fears for a chance to love again.

EXCERPT:

I closed my eyes and let the truth wash over me. I’d known loss and its bedfellows—sadness and depression. During those dark times, I learned a heart could break—a break so painful that the only remedy would be death. But the timing of that final occurrence—my home-going to the place where those I loved and lost waited for me—would be left to God. And over the years, my passion for art had taught me that a painting is made more rich, interesting, and meaningful with the combinations of light and darks, and so is life. Without the dark, the light is lost.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jayme H. Mansfield

Loosening the reins and leaning into a creative life—that’s Jayme H. Mansfield’s sweet spot as an author, artist, and educator. Speaking at book clubs and interest groups, teaching the writing craft, and guiding others in their artistic pursuits at her long-time art studio, Piggy Toes, is the icing on the cake.

The transformative power of art and faith are common threads in her award-winning historical novels, Chasing the Butterfly and RUSH. Her latest novel, Seasoned ~ A Vintage Love with Modern-Day Flavor, delivers the same. Recently, RUSH won several awards, including the Gold Medal Illumination Award winner for Enduring Christian Fiction, Selah Finalist, Excellence in Editing, two prestigious Colorado Book of the Year Awards, and finalist for the Chanticleer Laramie Award for Excellence in Western Fiction. RUSH was named the 2019 Village Read and celebrated throughout Colorado. Her bold floral abstractions and imaginative landscapes blend luscious color and playful texture—a testimony to what is acclaimed as “joyful and hopeful” art.

Jayme lives at the base of the Colorado Rocky Mountains where she and her husband have survived raising three hungry, hockey-playing sons. Currently, two very needy Golden Retrievers run the roost. Visit www.jaymehmansfield.com for books, art, and creative inspiration.

JUNE:  Your previous two books, 'Rush' and 'Chasing the Butterfly' are historical novels. Your newest release, 'Seasoned', is a 'vintage love story with modern-day flavor'. Please share why you have chosen to write in the historical genre. Do you have plans to write in any other genres? Do you have an interest in writing non-fiction? If yes, what subject would you write about?

JAYME:  It's interesting, but I never specifically chose historical fiction. More than anything, I’ve discovered that I love storytelling, and tend to be drawn to researching places, people, events, and nuances from the past. With that said, I do love to read historical fiction. I also love to travel and am fascinated with the history of how people experienced life in various places and time periods. My previous novels grew out of my own life experiences – Chasing the Butterfly from my time spent in France and being an artist, and RUSH is based on my great-great grandmother’s participation in the 1893 Oklahoma Land Run.

Seasoned was originally written as a “time-slip” with both historical and contemporary settings. After much discussion with my editors, I rewrote it in a contemporary setting, although much of the story reflects memories and reflections from the past. My current work-in-progress is again, set in contemporary times, but revolves around art forgery and a past famous artist – so exciting!

I suppose my future writing will have historical elements, but I do like contemporary women’s fiction as well. As for non-fiction, I have ideas in the works regarding the transformational power of art and creativity, family relationships, specifically mother-daughter relationships (at all stages of life), and raising boys (I have three!).

The exciting thing for me is allowing the creative muse to have its way and pursuing the next story that’s bubbling inside!

Thanks for the interview! 😀
