Nature breeds new life with the sign of Spring in the air in Leavensport, Ohio, and Jolie and Ava find their new families’ lives turned upside down! With properties in Leavensport beginning to sell, Nina Sanchez opened a bakery after purchasing the lot next to M&M’s Italian restaurant. She is new to town and swears to Ava and Jolie she has no connection to the Dominican Republic Sanchez mafia family. Yet, Ava is skeptical, and this sends Jolie and Ava off on yet another investigation looking at how organized crime connects to their little village and the politics that surround it.

Meanwhile, Nina Sanchez is not thrilled to feel obliged to cross-sell and become a full-fledged member of Leavensport, especially not with Jolie and Ava investigating her history. She has no choice when her son discovers a murdered homeless woman on the street on his way to deliver bread to the local shelter—it looks a lot like a mob hit and the reveal of who the homeless woman is will send all of Leavensport on alert making Jolie question the future of her town.

Welcome to Leavensport, Ohio, where DEATH takes a DELICIOUS turn!

Top Five Learning Experiences Writing a Cozy Mystery Series

This is the first cozy series I’ve written. The latest book in the series, Monkey Bread Business, will serve as the book leading into the big kaboom climactic book that comes out July 23, 2021. Then, I’ll be working on a brand-spankin new cozy series while finishing this series up! I’ve learned SO much writing this series. Here’s a top-ten list of things learned:

Number Five: The first book in a series (meaning THE FIRST book ever written by me at least😉) will ALWAYS be the worst in the series. Don’t get me wrong—it’s a great story and people tell me they love it—but boy, was it a huge learning curve, and the second is where I found my groove! Whenever I hear someone say, “I’m reading the first in the series now!” I cringe.

Number Four: You may ask—why not rewrite book one when you grow as a writer? I’d answer with, wow, that’s smart. Time is my mortal enemy until I can have five of me cloned. Currently, I write under my actual name and two pen names, and it’s looking like there could be ONE more pen name coming in the next year or two. Plus, I teach seven online, self-paced courses to help educators in Ohio meet their professional development needs. So, I continue to cringe at book one. The good news—any other new series that come out—book one is good to go!

Number Three: Working from home is a blessing and a curse when you have a retired hubby and eight little furbabies climbing all over you as you try to write. I’m a homebody—always have been. LOVE working from home. These little kitties of mine love to walk across the keyboard, meow loudly in my ear when I’m late feeding them, and they come dragging toys in for their mama to play often.

Number Two: Tracking things from book to book can be murder! It sounds like the title of a book! I have a murder board (really a whiteboard) and a Word document to track plots and characters. I use a PowerPoint to track the settings in the fictitious town of Leavensport, Ohio. Even with all of that, I have an editor and several beta readers checking and double-checking every book for mistakes that crazy, curly-haired writer may make.

Number One: The number one thing I’ve learned the last three years of writing this culinary cozy mystery series is that cozy mystery readers are the BEST readers around. I can’t count how many readers I’ve connected with on social media, blogs, through email and messenger. It BLOWS MY MIND how I feel like I’ve known so many of these people my entire life, and we’ve never met face to face!
