ABOUT THE BOOK:

Printed in color, Fun Through the Seasons: Recipes, Crafts and Fun Facts for Kids (volume two) goes through the seasons with informative articles for children to read and enjoy. The articles appeared in her column, Fun Facts for Kids, in 'Two-Lane Livin' Magazine.' While reading this book, with its colorful pictures and illustrations, children (and parents) will learn all about creepy creepy crawlies, our feathered friends, the bald eagle, lanterns of the night sky, Santa sightings - and much more! Sprinkled among the interesting articles are easy recipes, crafts, poems and activities for kids K through 5th grade. This book won't gather dust on the shelf but be read again and again by parents and children throughout the year.

REVIEW:

This book is a delightful read from start to finish! Embellished with the author's own colorful, whimsical illustrations, the variety of material presented is engaging and will be appealing to both children and adults. The topics covered in this book include American history, science, nature, social studies, state and national symbols, cooking and baking {Bird House Sandwich, flavored ice cream, cookies, Awesome Apple Slices, Mummy Pizza, Apple Pie Pizza}, national holidays, games and activities for indoors and outdoors, genealogy, crafts, biographies of famous individuals, and much more.

There are many original photographs of the recipes, crafts, animals, and nature scenes which I enjoyed. They add a valuable visual component which is so necessary in children's books.

One of my favorite pieces in the book is Janet's poem, 'Has Anybody Seen the Sun'. This simple rhyming poem is about an element of nature all children can relate to because the sun is a part of everyone's corner of the world.

Here's one fun fact I learned in this book: 'Want to know the outside temperature? Count the chirps a tree cricket makes in 15 seconds and add 40.'

The tone of all of the written work found in the book is warm and friendly. From the poetry to the non-fiction articles to the recipes and crafts, the author has done a fine job of welcoming youngsters into her world. Her vintage-style drawings add another fun dimension to the written words, creating a sensory experience for readers.

Highly-recommended for middle-grade and above readers, families, teachers, librarians, youth group/scout/and camp leaders, and anyone who wants a fine resource for high-interest readings and activities.

I received a digital copy of this book from the author. My opinions and thoughts expressed here are solely my own.
