EXCERPT:
Lucy came running into the kitchen. “Papa is this you?” she asked, pointing to a picture in a large book filled with faded photos.
“Why, yes, that’s me when I was your age!”
“Who is that next to you?”
“That was my grandfather, Papa Bill. He was a wonderful man.”
“Have I ever met him?”
“Oh no, he is your great-great-grandfather, and he went to Heaven long before you were born.”
Lucy looked at his picture and wondered how many other people in her family she hadn’t met, as the book was filled with pictures of people she didn’t recognize. “Are these people my family, too?” Lucy asked, turning pages and pointing to one photo after another.
“They sure are.”
“They look so different from me,” she said, tugging at a strand of her fiery red hair. Then again, Lucy looked a lot different than Papa Joe. Her light skin, green eyes, and freckled nose were completely different from Papa’s olive-colored skin and dark hair and eyes.
