"Can you send me some patience, God? Please?"

Harriet's mom calls her Harriet Hurry-Up--and it's easy to see why. There's nothing this little girl can't stand more than waiting. From a slow pokey sun that won't rise before she does, to the shy sprouts on her school potato experiment, to the long line at the store with Mom, everything takes forever for Harriet. Why, oh, why can't this day just go faster?

But with her Gran's help, this impatient little girl is learning to trust God's timing and find the blessings he puts in every single day--if she can just slow down long enough to see them.

With rhymed text that kids will love and colorful, whimsical illustrations full of surprises, Harriet Hurry-Up and the Oh-So-Slow Day! will quickly become a family favorite. It's perfect for birthdays, back-to-school reading, and for anyone--child or adult--who finds that having patience is hard.

MY REVIEW:

A delightful children's picture book that children and their families will relate to . . .

Harriet does everything in high gear because she does not want to wait for anything. The illustrations and text reveal some everyday situations as examples of her lack of patience. Humor was a critical element in this story, and it was one of the things I enjoyed about the book.

The illustrator has done a great job of creating vivid, engaging artwork that will immediately draw youngsters into the action. Her clever use of brilliant hues of pink, blue, purple, and green made me say, 'Wow,' as I turned the pages.

The story is introduced by an Old Testament scripture about patience. The author uses the three essential keys of building literacy skills in young children—rhyme, rhythm, and repetition—throughout her text. There are some surprises at the end of the stories that children will thoroughly enjoy.

The 'Learning to Wait' section in the Back Matter of this book includes two sections:  'For Kids' and 'For Parents & Caregivers.' These sections include valuable tips for both age groups on how to use simple activities to help youngsters learn how to and practice being more patient.

This book is completely clean in language and content. Highly-recommended for families, church and temple libraries, faith-based children's classes, and anyone who is interested in reading a text filled with hope and whimsy while viewing lovely illustrations.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through JustRead Publicity Tours. All of my opinions and thoughts shared here are solely my own.
