From author Lena Gregory comes a delightfully delicious cozy mystery...
With most of Eastern Long Island closed down for a blizzard, Danika Delaney and her friends are holed up in her old fashioned malt shop, the Coffee & Cream Café, with ice cream and hot chocolate. However, their plans to wait out the storm in cozy company are interrupted when a popular YouTuber and her two companions show up at the door—they've been trapped by the storm, and Dani generously offers to serve them breakfast. But her generosity isn't rewarded in kind, as the reviewer then tries to extort money from Dani in exchange for a good review! When the storm finally clears, Dani is happy to have seen the last of them.
Or so she thought.
Dani and her friends decide to go sleigh riding the morning after the storm clears, but instead of a winter wonderland, they find the extorting YouTuber...dead! To make matters worse, Dani suddenly finds herself accused of the woman's murder. Intent on restoring her reputation, Dani sets out to prove she didn’t do it. This is one storm she's not sure she can weather...

'New Year's Resolutions'
by Lena Gregory
With a New Year comes the inevitable New Year’s Resolutions! Every year my list of resolutions is pretty much the same. When promoting an old story I wrote, I often asked readers, what are your New Year’s resolutions? The results varied from blog to blog, but the overwhelming majority of people said they’d like to lose weight, exercise more, be more organized, make better use of their time, save money—all the same resolutions I make every year.
I think many of us rattle off a list of resolutions with no clear idea of how we will keep them. I’ve decided this year, rather than just making a resolution, I’m going to come up with a plan to make my resolutions work. My first step is to set realistic goals. I don’t think I’m going to miraculously develop enough self-control to bypass a chocolate cake just because it’s a new year. I could be wrong, but it hasn’t worked for the past…well…however many years, so it probably won’t work this year either. Instead of making my resolution to lose weight, I’m going to eat healthier. Hopefully, weight loss will come with healthier eating, but if not, at least maybe I’ll feel better and have more energy. If I go for the fruits and veggies first, maybe I’ll be full enough after them to skip the cookies.
I’m going to put five dollars a week in an envelope to save. It’s not a lot, and I probably won’t miss it much, but maybe if I can put five dollars away, I can increase it to ten or fifteen. Starting out small and having realistic expectations seems a more manageable plan.
Being more organized doesn’t come quite as easily, and I definitely function better when things are organized. So I tried to think about why I’m so unorganized. I decided I’m not managing my time well enough, like when I sit down to write and check my social media and email first. Of course, emails have to be answered, so I take care of that. And social media, well, that’s about the biggest time suck ever. As soon as I sign on the IMs start, then there’s posts to reply to and groups to post to. This might be the hardest to keep, but I will manage my time better. When I sit down to write, I’ll write first, then check emails and social media. Who knows? Maybe it’ll motivate me to write faster.
What are some of your resolutions for the coming New Year? Do you have a plan to help you achieve your goals? Let me know!

About Lena Gregory
Lena Gregory is the author of the Bay Island Psychic Mysteries, which take place on a small island between the north and south forks of Long Island, New York, the All-Day Breakfast Café Mysteries, which are set on the outskirts of Florida’s Ocala National Forest, the Mini-Meadows Mysteries, set in a community of tiny homes in Central Florida, and the Coffee & Cream Café Mysteries, which take place in a small town on the south shore of eastern Long Island, New York.
Lena grew up in a small town on the south shore of eastern Long Island, but she recently traded in cold, damp, gray winters for the warmth and sunshine of central Florida, where she now lives with her husband, three kids, son-in-law, and four dogs. Her hobbies include spending time with family, reading, and walking. Her love for writing developed when her youngest son was born and didn’t sleep through the night. She works full-time as a writer and a freelance editor and is a member of Sisters in Crime.

Thank you for being part of the blog tour for SOFT SERVE SLEIGHING by Lena Gregory. Super excited about this book on my TBR list. Knowing the author, I know it's going to be a fabulous read.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reading Lena's post. As I've gotten older (and older), I have decided not to make resolutions, but rather goals/contracts with myself. For me, it's a way not to set outlandish or unrealistic goals. As with any contract, there are penalties for not hold your end up to the bargain - kind of a way to keep yourself in check so to speak. I've also learned (with age and the privilege of retirement) to be flexible and to go with the flow.
My goals for 2025 are to stretch boundaries, explore new things and dare to make dreams a reality. While those may sound normal to some and unrealistic to other, for me they speak of one getting older whose body doesn’t always allow what one wants and the realization that some things may soon become difficult or unable to attain. While I might set goals, I’m also (thanks to retirement and a small bit of funds that allow it) open to change. Sometimes it opens up to us that the way from A to B isn’t always a straight line and to bend the path makes the journey more enjoyable. We are trying to mark off more items off our bucket list before we might not be able to travel to do them. So, some of my goals are to make trips to be able to mark at least two of those items off the list. Along the way, if I’m able to complete the goal of trying something new or different, all the better. Another goal is to read more, to find new to me authors, explore new genre. With my body demanding more sitting time in the recliner (and on the porch some warmer weather), I think I’ll be able to not only complete that goal, but to also complete the goal to photograph some new critter or at least get better photos of one of those that visit us daily. And lastly, with a family history of weight problems and I for one having fought it all my adult life, I want to lose some weight. This time though I’m not trying to get in that smaller sized jeans (which is a good reward but not the goal), but to get healthier to postpone some eventual difficulties. When getting around starts to be a problem, one of the things causing that problem is the excess pounds we move around in. So, daily I will be working on this goal all year while not punishing myself for a daily slip or a rare special treat, but keeping my eye on the end goal. We must all remember to set attainable goals in the short range so as not to get discouraged in trying to reach to long range goals.

I love this, Kay! You have a wonderful outlook, and I pray you reach all of your goals! I'd love to hear about the places you travel and to see pictures if you post them. I adore your critter photographs. <3
DeleteI like Lena's advice to make realistic goals toward resolutions. I decided to no longer make any New Year resolutions but to have a big goal with smaller goals that will lead to reaching that large goal.
ReplyDeleteSoft Serve Sleighing looks like a great cozy mystery that I will enjoy.
Thank you, Roxanne! I love the idea of smaller goals leading to reaching the larger one. It seems that would make the larger goals so much more attainable.
DeleteI have never followed the practice of New Years Resolutions. I try to be realistic in my goals and strive and persevere. Not to achieve perfection but to manage life better and complete tasks on time and be as organized as possible.
ReplyDeleteI love this!
DeleteI’d love to read this! Her books are great.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Kara! I hope you enjoy it. :)
DeleteThanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteMy New Year's resolutions are to travel for fun and really enjoy myself, starting this year! No excuses. Plus, that new Superman movie comes out on my birthday!
ReplyDeleteYay! I hope you have an amazing year (and a wonderful birthday)!
DeleteMy main goal for 2025 is to save money up fo I can get my hair styled. I'm too old for a pony tail.
ReplyDeleteDo you have any advice for new writers?
ReplyDeleteLearn as much as you can about the genre you want to write, then just sit down and write your book. And if you ever have questions, feel free to send me a friend request on facebook and send a private message. I am always happy to answer whatever I can or help out if possible. :) I wish you all the best on your writing journey. It's truly amazing!
DeleteNew author for me. Looking forward to reading this book.
