ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Cynthia Herron writes Heartfelt, Homespun Fiction from the beautiful Ozark Mountains. A hopeless romantic at heart, she enjoys penning stories about ordinary people facing extraordinary circumstances. Her Hope Discovered, her début novel and the first in a three-book series, released December 2018 with Mountain Brook Ink. 

“Cindy” has a degree in psychology and a background in social work. She is a member of ACFW, ACFW MozArks, and RWA. 

She is a 2020 Selah Award (Double) Finalist, a 2017 ACFW Genesis Finalist, a 2016 ACFW Genesis (Double) Finalist, and a 2015 ACFW First Impressions Winner. Her work is represented by Sarah Freese at WordServe Literary. 

Besides writing, Cindy enjoys spending time with family and friends. She has a fondness for gingerbread men, miniature teapots, and all things apple. She also adores a great cup of coffee and she never met a sticky note she didn’t like. 

 

JUNE:  What inspired you to set your second book in this series in a diner? What was your favorite part of writing about a diner?

CYNTHIA:  I knew from the conception of the Welcome to Ruby series, the Come and Get It Diner would play a significant role in each story. Growing up, I had fond memories of cozy little diners sprinkled throughout the Ozarks, and I loved the down home “feel” and camaraderie these places evoked.

I wanted to create a central hub where the community could not only enjoy a scrumptious home-cooked meal, but also chat with neighbors and make a new friend or two. I wanted to draw readers into the story by creating a welcoming atmosphere where they could truly envision the quirky, lovable characters that visited the diner, as well as those who worked there.

There’s something about the sights, sounds, and aromas connected with small town diners that readers identify with. Food is one of the greatest love languages. A great meal can make a tough season easier. It can facilitate fellowship and prompt conversation during the highs and lows of life, forever imprinting fond memories and lasting impressions, just like some of those meals did for Ida Mae Hoscutt and Chuck Farrow. Though many of their bonding experiences happened beyond the Come and Get It, the diner is where their relationship blossomed.

My favorite part about incorporating the Come and Get It Diner into His Love Revealed was the creative aspect. I created something from the ground up and breathed life into an entirely fictional place, yet it felt so real! Readers in my Facebook group offered meal suggestions and even helped name some of the menu items. I loved the fact that the diner seemed to inspire people before I’d even finished writing the story.
