ABOUT THE BOOK {from Goodreads}:

Take your craft projects to a whole new level with this ingenious series that turns recycling into an art form! Turn those extra socks into a snake, owl, dog toy, cat toy, mermaid, juggling balls, vegetable patch, and more. The sock crafts in this book are amazing fun for girls and boys. Each one comes with photographic step-by-step instructions and can be completed within an hour. The picture-book style narrative is full of humor and personality, with gorgeously illustrated scenes that show off your creations in style.

MY REVIEW:

I love craft books for kids that use recycled, upcycled, and found items. This book fits the bill by utilizing old socks to make some fun projects to use for play, as toys, or as pet toys. This book is designed with kids in mind. It's colorful, witty, and completely engaging.

There are 10 projects to make + with spin-offs on 7 of those 10 projects, there are actually 17 projects presented with instructions.

Sidebars for each project include:

 -- You Will Need: A supplies list for the project;

 -- Set the Scene: An idea guiding children how to make a diorama or 'scene' for their creature using basic materials such as cardstock, paint, etc.;

-- Did You Know?: A bit of trivia about the creature, i.e. "Octopuses have no bones but they do have 2 hearts and 9 brains!" (page 7); and

-- Go Further: How to adapt the project instructions to make a different project, i.e. for the Horse, kids are shown how to make a Zebra. (page 11)

There are great stepped-out photos and illustrations along with written captions. My personal favorites in this book were the pet toys children can make for their own pets or possibly for the local animal shelter. There is a braided sock toy for a dog and a braided sock with a ball toy for a dog. For a cat there is a fish cat toy made from a sock. All are very cute and easy to assemble.

Highly-recommended! I borrowed this book from the local public library.

🐈🐕🍪 ~ My two story collections which were written for children ages 6-10 are now available as e-books in the Kindle Shop. These stories were some of the stories I posted on the Kindle Vella platform from July, 2021, to November, 2021. The stories have now transitioned into these story collections.

🐈🐕🍪 ~ 'Banjo & More Pet Stories' includes 4 pet stories and 'Carter's Cookies & More Family Stories' includes 5 family stories. The stories cover important life lessons such as: Animal care, compassion, loyalty, love, respect, kindness, responsibility, honesty, service, and communication.

🐈🐕🍪 ~ The stories are filled with humor and are a mix of contemporary and historical fiction. All of the stories are completely clean in language and content.

  2. I have a collection of "lost socks" because I know I will need them for some project or another. Who knew there'd be a book about that?

  5. I think I would have picked this book up simply because of that wonderful title! How fun. Unfortunately, my local library doesn't have it yet, but I will find a copy somehow. Thanks for telling me about it.
