ABOUT THE BOOK
Title: Forged
The one missing person he can’t find
is the one who matters the most.EXCERPT:
The phone rang four times before Mikayla answered with a breathless, “Jax?”
Her voice, even that one word, wrapped around him like a winter jacket he’d pulled on to ward off the cold night. “Hola, preciosa.”
“Hola. ¿CΓ³moestΓ‘s?”
Where did he even begin? “I just came from Diego’s grave.”
“Oh, Jax. I’m so sorry.”
The compassion in her voice nearly undid him. Unutterable weariness swept over him. The only thing he wanted was to drop onto a couch, pull Mikayla to him, her head resting on his chest, and fall asleep with his cheek pressed to her silky hair.
Through the line, she drew in a shuddering breath. “I wish I could hold you.”
Jax managed a wry grin. “You are reading my thoughts.”
“Will you come home?”
He hesitated. Now, listening to her in the stillness of the car, the lights of Puerto Rico streaming past his windows, coming home to her sounded like the only good idea in the world. This quest still tangled him up like that fly in the spider web, though. Why? Diego was dead. As the blond man had reminded him, he could do nothing for his brother now. So why couldn’t he wipe away the cobwebs of this case as easily as he had swiped the bits of web off on his jeans earlier? All he knew was that he couldn’t.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Sara Davison is the author of four romantic suspense series—The Seven Trilogy, The Night Guardians, The Rose Tattoo Trilogy, and two sparrows for a penny, as well as the standalone, The Watcher. A finalist for more than a dozen national writing awards, she is a Word, Cascade, and Carol Award winner. She currently resides in Ontario with her husband, Michael, and their three mostly grown kids. Like every good Canadian, she loves coffee, hockey, poutine, and apologizing for no particular reason.

Not surprising, since romantic suspense has always been my favourite genre to read.
In general, Christian romantic suspense tends to follow a rough formula, although the guidelines are not as rigid as they are with straight suspense. Typically, the hero (or, more often now, the heroine) is either a cop, private eye, or current or former military. The heroine (or, more often now, the hero) is in some kind of danger and needs protection. Despite all precautions, the bad guy/girl usually manages to get to the one in danger and the hero or heroine must rescue them. Of course there is romantic tension simmering throughout as well.
My books rarely follow even that loose formula closely. While most, if not all, would still clearly be classified as romantic suspense simply by virtue of that fact that, even if they don’t always follow that outline, they contain roughly equal suspense and romance elements, a number of them could also be assigned another sub-genre. Written in Ink, for example, could probably best be described as romantic-suspense-women’s fiction, which, unfortunately for me, isn’t a genre that exists. The Watcher is speculative romantic suspense while The Seven Trilogy would be considered dystopian romantic suspense. And since every book doesn’t end with the hero and heroine together (because the story arc takes place over the whole series) those ones can’t even be categorized as romance, as one of the stipulations of that genre is that there is a HEA for the main couple.
All of which makes it tricky for publishers and readers to know exactly what to do with me and my work. That’s one of the reasons I am now a hybrid author. While I love my two publishing houses, am deeply grateful for their support and the many ways they have made my work better, and have had nothing but good experiences with them, as an indie author there is more freedom to write the way the stories naturally flow out of me.
Most of my readers are those who typically read Christian suspense and romantic suspense. Thankfully, the fact that my books are often different than those that normally fall into those categories doesn’t seem to be a deterrent for them. Hopefully, the fact that it isn’t always as easy to figure out where the journey is going to take them will actually draw them to my stories. As an author, while it can be a lot easier to follow a more rigid formula, it is far more interesting to not worry too much about that and to just let the story and the characters take me where they will.
However readers feel about my books, I pray that they will take from them the underlying theme of each one – that whatever we are going through (and my poor characters go through plenty!!) we are never alone. God is always with us and has promised to never leave us or forsake us, even when we can’t predict where the road (or the story) will take us.
