Flower farmer Emma Justice’s life is firmly rooted in Lutz, Texas where she has recently begun her new business. One morning while delivering flowers, she stumbles upon a prominent citizen. Dead. When a friend is accused of murder, Emma launches her own investigation. She’s used to separating weeds from flowers. Emma will dig for clues, weed out red herrings and cultivate a plan to find the killer.

Hi, I’m Emma Justice. We are having some kind of heat wave down here in Lutz, Texas. I’m the town’s local flower farmer. Some people confuse me with florists or urban farmers. My job is to grow flowers. Daisies, zinnias, coneflowers, and sunflowers are my best sellers.
I do as much work as possible in the early morning and evening. I have red hair which makes it even more challenging to work with the flowers during the middle of the day. You can often find me wearing a straw cowboy hat to protect my head and face.
In case you’re not aware, flower farms can be many acres like regular farms. They can also be small areas of land. Quite a few flower farmers begin on less than an acre of land. After years of planning and dreaming, I finally started a flower farm in my back yard. I have a combination of regular flower beds and raised beds because it helps me be more efficient. My backyard is fenced in, but there’s another half-acre behind my yard. One day I’ll expand and use it.
I sell stems and some arrangements at the local farmers market. I also take flowers to local businesses like the bed-and-breakfast, Sophie’s Bakery, Anytime Coffee, and Paige’s Turn Bookstore. One nice morning in March, I found my first dead body at the bookstore. That’s a day I’ll never forget, but enough sadness.
Today, I’m going to Lutz Antique and Vintage Market. I like to search for unique vases and containers for flowers because some people don’t have a knack for arranging flowers. I mostly sell stems at the farmers market, but the arrangements are popular too.
My days are full of flowers and friends. If you’re ever in Lutz, look me up.
